Hello Everyone,
It’s Black History Month! To celebrate, I’ll be highlighting books written by Black authors and illustrators in these emails all month. This week’s book is The Lion and the Mouse by Jerry Pinkney. It’s an almost wordless retelling of one of Aesop’s fables, and, as you can see from the cover, it is very beautiful. We have several other of his books as well. Come check them out!
For this week’s story time we read Green Is a Chile Pepper: A Book of Colors by Roseanne Greenfield Thong and Olivia…and the Missing Toy by Ian Falconer. Green Is a Chile Pepper gives descriptions of objects that match the page’s color theme. It also lists the color in both English and Spanish, so if you are hoping to teach your child Spanish, this book might be useful! I love the Olivia series, and this book is (somewhat) suspenseful and fun to read out loud. (Make sure to prepare your best “I think my siblings stole my stuff and I am yelling at them” voice) For our craft, we took scrap paper and stickers and paired similar colors on a white piece of paper. Join us next Thursday at 10:45 for more books, crafts, and toys!
The Puppet Theater Extravaganza this month was a lot of fun! I tried performing an Elephant and Piggy book with the Elephant and Piggy stuffed animals we have in the children’s room, but discovered that turning pages while holding them is difficult. Maybe next month I’ll try improv.
Starting February 19th I will be leaving out bags of craft materials for people to take home! There will be winter crafts, Valentine’s Day crafts, and whatever else I think would be cool. Stay tuned!
The All Ages Writing Group will meet February 21st from 3:15 to 4:15.
We also will have Movie Night on Wednesday, February 28th from 5:30-7. Come enjoy a movie and popcorn with friends!
I also wanted to put out a quick survey about what types of events you would like to see and what times work best for you. I want to make sure that there is something for everyone, and that programs are accessible. Please use the link below. The survey is anonymous.

Hope to see you at the library!
