Hello Everyone!
That snowstorm was quite something. I hope everyone made it through alright. The library has power and Internet, so if you’re in need of either of those, come visit us!
April is poetry month! As a kid, I always found poetry super scary because people were always making such a big deal out of it. I thought there was no way I was smart enough to read poetry. But there’s plenty of different types of poetry and it can be serious or silly like novels can. The only poet I remember having read to me as a child was Shel Silverstein, author of books such as Where the Sidewalk Ends and Falling Up. We have these poetry books in our juvenile nonfiction collection, though they can be read to younger kids as well! The poems are easy to understand and super fun and silly.
We have new books! In juvenile fiction, we’ve added more volumes of The Last Kids on Earth! We have a new series of easy chapter books: Narwhal and Jelly, which are super adorable, the 2024 Caldecott award winner: Big, and other fun picture books!
Come watch the eclipse with us! Our eclipse viewing party will start at 2:15 pm on Monday. We are also handing out eclipse glasses! Come get some before they are gone!
This week’s Earth Day challenge is to build a snowman! Or, alternatively, build a snow blob! (A snowman, but it’s just a blob of snow with a face. My parents created them because I was too impatient as a kid to make an actual snowman)
Additional challenge: Grab a handful of snow. Examine it closely. What does it look like? Feel like?
Hope to see you at the library!
Kaitlyn
