Hello Everyone!
This week’s poetry book is Earth Verse: Haiku from the Ground Up by Sally M. Walker. Every poem in the book is a haiku about an aspect of the Earth, and there’s a section at the end that gives more details about the poem’s subjects. The art is really pretty too! You can find it in our juvenile nonfiction section.
For this week’s story time, we read a lot of books, including Sandra Boynton’s Blue Hat, Green Hat and some Elephant & Piggie books!
For our craft, we created colorful designs by gluing string to paper. Everyone came up with their own unique designs!
Join us next Thursday at 10:15 AM for more stories, crafts, and fun!
Next Saturday at 10:15 AM we will be showing videos about animals and nature in honor of Earth Day. Learn animal facts to impress your friends, or just come to appreciate adorable critters.
This week’s Earth Day challenge is to observe some trees! A fun way to do this is to take a piece of paper and a crayon with the paper wrapping pulled off, and rub the side of the crayon against the paper while the paper is lying on tree bark. The design of the bark will appear on your paper! (Unless the tree bark is too rough, then it might just rip). See if you can figure out what type of tree you’re looking at. The Squam Lakes Science Center has a powerpoint about identifying trees (some of the images were a bit blurry for me, but it still works fairly well). If that doesn’t work for you, the University of New Hampshire has a list of resources you can use!
Hope to see you at the library!
Kaitlyn
