Saturday, July 17

Posted on July 15, 2024July 15, 2024 By jblackeynhs

Hello Everyone!

How’s Summer Reading going for everyone? Remember to turn in your summer reading logs for small prizes! All reading logs must be turned in by Saturday, August 17 at 1pm. We will also be giving prizes to the nine children who read the most this summer! Here are a few of these prizes:

Next Tuesday from 6:30-8pm, we will be welcoming author and illustrator Karol Hayes! She’ll be teaching basic watercolor painting and leading an activity! We’ll be providing the art supplies, so just bring yourself!

And if you’ve ever wanted to know what steps go into creating a picture book, she will be answering questions about her books. If you’re interested in writing or art, this is not to be missed!

This program is for children in 4th grade and up. Adults are welcome as well!

Please fill out this form if you wish to attend so we can make sure we purchase the correct amount of supplies:

Also, join us July 23 at 6:30pm for a family movie! We will have snacks and drinks available for everyone who attends! I will personally be wearing my pajamas for maximum comfort, and I recommend others do the same if they would like! Please use the link below the movie descriptions to vote for a movie from this selection:

  • The Goonies (Rated PG, 1 hour, 54 minutes) – “A group of young misfits called The Goonies discover an ancient map and set out on an adventure to find a legendary pirate’s long-lost treasure” (description from IMDb)
  • The Sandlot (Rated PG, 1 hour, 34 minutes) – “In the summer of 1962, a new kid in town is taken under the wing of a young baseball prodigy and his rowdy team, resulting in many adventures” (description from IMDb)
  • Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Rated PG, 1 hour, 57 minutes) – “Teen Miles Morales becomes the Spider-Man of his universe and must join with five spider-powered individuals from other dimensions to stop a threat for all realities” (description from IMDb)
  • Star Wars: A New Hope (Rated PG, 2 hours, 1 minute) – “Luke Skywalker joins forces with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a Wookiee and two droids to save the galaxy from the Empire’s world-destroying battle station, while also attempting to rescue Princess Leia from the mysterious Darth Vader” (description from IMDb)
  • Elemental (Rated PG, 1 hour, 41 minutes) – “Follows Ember and Wade, in a city where fire-, water-, earth- and air-residents live together” (description from IMDb)

I will announce the movie on Friday, July 19th.

If you would like full descriptions of our other summer reading events, I’ve attached a document to this email, and they will soon be on our website.

This week, we will have Summer Reading Drop-In from 3-4pm on Monday, Weekly All-Ages Storytime from 10:15-11:15am on Thursday, and LEGO Time from 3-4:30, also on Thursday!

We also have new children’s and juvenile fiction books, most of which were purchased using proceeds from the 2024 New Hampton Town Wide Yard Sale and were kindly donated to us!

For children’s books, we have some new nonfiction and books for kids learning to read, so come check those out!

We received donations for new copies of the Magic Treehouse series, as well as some new series of a similar reading level! If you’ve just barely graduated from the kids section and are looking for something to help you transition into chapter books, these books are perfect! (If the picture is squished, there’s another copy of this email attached)

Hope to see you at the library!

Kaitlyn
