NEW HAMPTON ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS GROUP NEWSLETTER – April 22, 2025
We want to welcome a few new members to our group! We look forward to meeting you! Group members enjoyed a Game Afternoon last Friday on April 18th with many Cribbage enthusiasts! We paired up in groups, and many members offered to teach others not familiar with the game, and the interest definitely grew! I had no idea how popular cribbage was and plan to work on my skills to join in on the fun.
WEEKLY MEETING: Friday, April 25th from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
This week, we plan to offer another Game Session from 10 a.m. to noon at the library. Please bring your Cribbage boards and meet in the Judge Nash Room. We also plan to offer a second activity at the same time this week in order to introduce Chair Yoga.
CHAIR YOGA: Friday, April 25th from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. Free
Lisa Travis holds a 200-hour RYT certification in Vinyasa from Vidya Vinyasa Yoga and a 500-hour Advanced Shakti Flow Yoga certification. She has level 1 and 2 Usui Reiki certifications. Lisa is a lifelong yoga practitioner, guiding classes for ten years. Chair yoga is fairly new to her, but she is excited to offer it to our group. If you are interested in Chair Yoga, please plan to attend on Friday, April 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for a FREE mini Chair Yoga session. If there is enough interest, Lisa will offer Chair Yoga weekly throughout the summer. Let’s give her a BIG WELCOME on Friday!
WALKING GROUP: Friday, May 2nd from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Bring a picnic lunch)
We are planning a Walking Group “field trip” to the Squam Lake Science Center on Friday, May 2nd, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. We can meet at the picnic area around 10:00 a.m. for a brief GROUP MEETING and walk the loop together or break into smaller groups. I believe the main loop path is suitable for a walker, and if I remember correctly, they offer motorized wheelchairs as well, just in case anyone needs one. For those able to stay through lunch, we can meet at the picnic area for a picnic. I plan to sign up for a membership on the 2nd and hope to walk the loop many times this summer. If you have a membership that allows you a free pass for a guest and are willing to share with someone from the group without a membership, please let me know. I believe there are also some free passes available at the library.
CPR CLASS: Saturday, May 3rd from 8:30 – 12:30. Registration required.
The Fire Department is offering a CPR class on May 3, 2025, from 8:30 – 12:30 for FREE. If you are interested, please call (603) 744-2735 to register. Some members from the group have already registered.
HIPAA (Durable Power of Attorney) Presentation: Wednesday, May 7th from 6 – 7:00 p.m.
I want to thank Margaret, a nurse from New Hampton, who has offered to provide a HIPAA presentation at the Gordon-Nash Library on Wednesday, May 7, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. If you have questions about HIPAA (medical DPOA) or why it may be necessary for medical reasons, please attend! There will be a Q&A after the presentation.
DON’T BE A VICTIM OF A SCAM Presentation: Friday, May 30th from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
The New Hampton Active Older Adults is pleased to announce the “Don’t Be A Victim Of A Scam” presentation to be held at the New Hampton Public Safety Building at the Fire Department on May 30, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The New Hampshire Department of Justice is providing this important information for our Active Older Adults members as well as the community. If you are interested in attending, please note that the New Hampton Public Safety Building has a limit on seating, so let me know if you plan to attend. I assume this event will be well-attended, and I want to be sure to save enough seats for our members.
I also want to give a BIG thank you to our member, Charity, who introduced me to her sister at the Department of Justice, who was instrumental in providing this “Don’t Be The Victim Of A Scam” presentation for our community. We all thank you, Charity!
LASTLY: I am looking forward to many of these activities and hope you are too! If you know anyone else interested in joining our group or someone willing to offer a workshop or a class, please feel free to share my email. BrendaEOlsonLLC@gmail.com. Thank you!
